PLACENCIA TODAY
Seventeen mile long Placencia Peninsula is home to three small
communities: Maya Beach, Seine Bight, and at the southern tip the Placencia
Village. This peninsula is located in the Stann Creek District of Belize.
Over the past 7 years Placencias has developed into one
of the most exquiste vacation destination that Belize has to offer. Placencia
prides itself as having the most beautiful beaches in the country of
Belize.
The village remains small and is very peaceful and is
filled with gift shops, restaurants, spas,
internet cafes, and a few art galleries featuring local talent.
A one mile concrete sidewalk serves as
the main street for the entire Placencia village. Once you arrive in
Placencia you will find a large array of wooden
houses near the side walk which were built on stilts.

has been deemed the narrowest street in the
world, acording to the "Guinness
Book of World Records."
A trip to the Placencia village is ideal for adventure
fisherment who desire to catch fishes such as: permits, tarpons, and
the snook or bonefish
Snorkeling is also known to be
most spectacular in this area of the country.
Beginner or experienced - adult or child, Everyone can enjoy snorkeling in
Placencia's Caribbean waters! Between the Placencia Peninsula
and the Barrier Reef extends 20 miles of underwater canyons and mountains
- the tops of these mountains create the extensive range of cayes. Some
of the cayes are capped with mangroves and abundant bird life.
HISTORY
The Placencia Peninsula has already been inhabited by the Mayas hundreds
of years ago. In the 17th century it became home to English Puritans
who came down from North America looking for a new place to settle.
They left in the Central American wars around 1820. Placencia was
later on resettled and became a prosperous village mainly dealing
with seafood products. Today tourism is one of the most important
sources of income for this culturally diverse community where Creoles,
Spanish, American and European Nationals peacefully live together.

- Seine Bight, a traditional Garifuna village a
few miles north of Placencia, provides a chance to sample Garifuna
cooking and music.
- Scuba - Experience the walls and canyons

- Snorkel - Laughing Bird or Silk Caye & Reef
or rent a kayak and snorkel nearby Placencia Caye on your own.
- Sport Fishing - Inside or outside the reef. Placencia
is well known for it's Salt water fly fishing.

sailboats for day sailing or overnights.
- Kayak - Placencia Lagoon or nearby Placencia Caye
